An amateur monster-hunter has recorded video footage of a supposed sea monster swimming across Lake Van, a small lake in eastern Turkey. The mediocre-quality footage, snippets of which were posted in QuickTime movie format on the CNN web site, shows an indeterminate dark object several feet in length bobbing up and down on the lake's surface.

The video was shot on June 10 by Unal Kozak, a teaching assistant at Van University, who says that he has spotted and filmed the creature on three separate occasions. Kozak has written a book on the Lake Van monster, having collected the testimony of a mind-blowing 1,000 witnesses.

Kozak says the alleged sea monster has been a matter of intense fascination for him ever since it was first reported at Lake Van in 1995. Among the witnesses who first claimed to see a dinosaur-like creature was a provincial deputy governor, who persuaded the Turkish parliament to carry out a search.

  • I've always had an interest in cryptozoology and I believe this video is authentic. What it is I'm not sure, but I pretty sure its not a hoax. My personal belief is that when the last ice age ended lake Van was connected to the sea. A species of whale that lived within lake Van became trapped as the waters receded. The whale theory comes about due to the beak-like nose. Any the species is probably small due to evolution and not sighted much due to the remoteness of the lake.

  • shit

  • it might exist but this video does look rather fake. The monster swims straight and breathes continuously! LOL

  • i think that it is real. i dont know what it could be and i wont pretend that i do, but i think that there are many creatures alive that we have yet to discover or that we think died out long ago. but it is interesting how many different places all over the world have seen creatures that all resemble each other. i think that these things may even find a way to mirgrate continuously and that is why they are seen everywhere and yet dont seem to stay in a place for very long.

  • how can i film this thing?

    WITH A CAMERA, BITCH!

  • Cryptozoology novel about two boys who find something strange on the beach one night see video book trailer

  • @MonkishChief i agree with your theory, but also i have heard that cross breeding; like with dogs was most likely common when the population dwindled. Also a liopleurodon genes could have been altered to such an extreme measure, that its natural body chemistry could have changed to better fit the world we know today.

  • Hippo.

  • @kurdland1987

History is Armenian, Language and Population are the same. Ofcourse the language isnt Armenian anymore after the Armenians got deported out of there and genocided. My grandgrandparents were also from Van.
