This is a Cold War relic. It was awesome being able to explore it for the first time. Vandals and scavengers haven't done too much damage to this particular spot - yet. If you go, this is at the upper base - not too far from the radar tower.

Mount Laguna Air Force Station is located atop Mount Laguna, with a steep drop into the Anza Borrego desert. It was a DEW (Distant Early Warning) site, watching for incoming missiles, and housed about 170 people until it was downsized in 1981. Now it is a multi-use satellite and radar communications site, operated primarily by the FAA, out of Los Angeles Center.

Beginning in 1952, the Mt. Laguna Air Force Station was home to the 751st Aircraft Control and Warning (AC&W) Squadron, later the 751st Radar Squadron, part of the Air Defense Command.

As of the end of summer 2011, all abandoned buildings here have been torn down. :-(

  • @SilentRevolver25 Ah. This one seems well-built, though. But I can understand why these places often get filled-in once abandoned.
