Here we go and have a new look at pc bsd's latest offering for us and on the whole it's cool but for the extreamly high cpu useage which is really not good chaps.
if they can get this little problem sorted i would have the option to use it as a real desktop machine for myself, the only problem might be is i would get bored of it's stability...... hehehe

  • ... saw your video, well what coul'd i say from a man who do DOTS in his filenames, you messed around whith the KDE desktop it is not the default one ... as it has no CPU usage and well WHY you don't open HTOP or an other system tool to look for the usage ?

i don't recommand your video and your comments, and you can me count on that !

  • @pcbsdmarco im sorry that you dont like dots and that you seemed to think i have messed up kde,but as you would have seen from the other comments that it seems to be a problem, and if you cant live with that, that is your problem, the video does not lie, but when you post a video i will be pleased to comment on it

  • @Shagron1349 You should be able to run most Linux apps on pc-BSD, b/c it's a FreeBSD derivative, right? Read this doc (remove spaces)-> freebsd. org/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/books/handbook/linuxemu. html

  • freeBSD is okay ...

well i don't have seen the video yet, but i guess u don't know anything about ZFS ... if you have one harddrive you can select "basic" in the installation process, look at wikipedia for ZFS & the freeBSD manpages for more info.ZFS has data integrity, is a copy on write filesystem and has checksum check's or a (SHA-256) hash throughout the file system tree.

    try UFS & Journaling

    i don't watch your gentoo & linux vid's anymore ...

  • BSD is okay, I also had high cpu usage which made me stop using it for awhile. I usually aim for light weight Linux distros, like Xubuntu. Good video!

  • @bamdadkhan True. I think I heard somewhere though that PBI's also check for each library if it's the correct version in the system and use that. hence the installed size could actually be smaller than the download. I could be wrong though and I don't know how they handle lib updates if true. But @sneekylinux what process was eating up your cpu?

  • Hi,just drive by and really enjoy your channel,I use and love *nix too. By the way you sound like Simon Bradley from Guitarist UK mag I used to buy few years back, only he was doing equipment reviews,or are you actually him ? :-) :-) ,As you are Brit too you may know it as well. Can you please also fix somewhat oblongated aspect ratios in distro reviews cos otherwise it's perfect. Anyway thanks for great efforts you did for us to see.

  • i say that in my video your cpu is pc blood presure if it up all the time it will shorten the life of your cpu

  • @sneekylinux there is a linux compatibility layer. haven't figured out how to set it up tough.
