Half Dome: The Movie (A HD Half Dome Documentary)

Earlier this summer, I hiked up Half Dome. This video I shot chronicles bits and pieces of my journey up to the top. While the video was able to capture significant parts of the hike like Vernal Falls, sub dome, and the cables, you really have to be there to be able to take it all in. Yosemite is a beautiful place, one that should be experienced first-hand.

On the journey up, you'll see people of all sorts of demographics. You'll see people who are young, old, fit, and fat. Some people will make it, many will not. I've never been on a pilgrimage before but I imagine the journey to the top of Half Dome feels a lot like one.

Special thanks goes out to Rick Deutsch, author of One Best Hike: Yosemite's Half Dome (which is a great Half Dome prep book, btw), for taking the time out of his busy schedule to show me the ropes. I hope this plug makes up for what I owe you.

Absolutely! Just make sure you're well prepared (in shape while bringing all the right stuff) and you'll have a blast. Promise.

Not going to lie, it looks pretty steep when you're facing the mountain, but if you take it one step at a time, you'll be fine. Just make sure to bring some solid gripping gloves to help you hold onto the rope.

How long was did it take you to complete this trail ?

We were on track to finish it in about 10 hours but because the cables were EXTREMELY crowded when we went. Which was on a holiday monday, it took us over 11 hours.

I went the day after you, July 22, 2010. It was amazing. We made it to the top. I'm gonna go again and I want to document it like you. I really liked your video. Awesome job :)
