I like how Mrs. Miller admits that her son was born that way

It's very very rare for Meryl to be out shined. Viola Davis is a force to be reckoned with. She was amazing!

Well I cant agree with you. Mother herself knows very well its a bad thing. Why is she crying? Because she knows. Sister Aloysus is right, the only problem with her is that she doesnt understand no one is going to accept black homosexual boy. That's why his mother is trying not to reveal the case. Not because she thinks it isnt bad, but because she worries about her son (sorry for possible mistakes, Im not english).

I'm afraid your reading is wrong. the mother does not want to decide what is right or wrong, in fact the most important thing for hyer is her son's welfare. right or wrong is unclear in the first place. streep's character is stuck in a view where right and wrong are very clear but this conversation reveals that life is more grey and complex than this. the personn you criticized earlier was right.

You so didnt understood that scene. The mother KNOWS ist a bad thing, but she's afraid of doing anything against it. Meryl's character may seem unsympathetic, but she isnt negative and as movie goes on, audience starts to sympathise with her even if we dont agree with her.

Viola Davis should have won an Oscar.

Meryl definitely should've won her third Oscar for this role. She was incredible in this movie, as was Viola Davis in this scene. I wanted her to win for her brief (but pivotal) role in this film too

The play, and the movie aren't so simple as you want to make it. John Patrick Shanley doesn't have a pro-pedophile agenda, as you seem to stupidly suggest in your comments. The play really wants to explore the very nature of doubt amidst the highest of stakes. The real success of this movie is that the viewer is unsure, even at the end, of the truth. My goodness, the more i read your comments, i am shocked by their shallowness.

Meryl Streep's character who is exposing the possible paedophile priest is the most unsympathetic one.
The movie is called Doubt because it wants you to doubt your values, and give the benefit of the doubt to the priest.

The agenda is to soften opinions towards paedophiles by exploiting the sympathy people would have for that woman's's situation.
The pedo lobby want the public to see their urges as 'loving care'.
