August 1st, 2009 - Caught this beautiful Tetramorium queen on July 19th, 2009 in my backyard (Toronto, Canada) and placed her in a small test tube. She now has a cluster of eggs and small larvae. Her abdomen has grown considerably in size since I first found her.

  • I just keep them warm. In my room in the afternoon the sun comes streaming into my room from a west facing window and I close my door, as well as tape up my central air-conditioning vent. My room is always above room temperature and at its hottest in the afternoon it's about 27 degrees C. Keeping the ants warm in any way really makes a difference.

  • And yes, the small space makes the queen feel secure. Tetramorium is a small species and like tighter quarters.

  • how did it stay alive in there

  • Indeed she looks a lot like mine, she looks bigger though (Cerberos)

  • So do you do anything special to keep your tetramonium? Add heat, keep them in a tiny space for a reason, etc...? Because I think I have 3 queens and none of them have produced sucessful brood after 3 months!
