  • I'm not sure if you got the problem solved yet, but to me it sounds like your catallitic converter in your exhaust systems are pretty much out. Other cars with bad catallitic converters make a similar noise, but i'm guessing with a 24 valve exhaust manifold it would be a bit more amplified.

  • @nick83rocks yes the car dies on me on my way home from 300 miles away had to sell it for $300 :( i drive a volvo s70 now love it

  • rod knock? maybe

  • @dane774 raced it too hard lol? with good maintainance that motor will last a good while man. That is usually the factor is maintainance tho

  • @hippo459 ......that was the v8

  • lol some people on here make no sense they suggest stupid things sounds to me like it is/was the bearings whether it was ur cam bearings/rod bearings/ or main bearins who knows comes from high revving and/or low oil pressure or just very very high miles or combination of all, goodluck hopefully u sold that crap by now lol or replaced motor doubt it lasted this long

  • Low oil or just revving it upp / racing to much =P ... some motors need extra oil cooling to survive hard revving / driving.

  • You prolly fixed this by now? it sounds like bearing failure ... if you been driving with low oil the bearings get damaged and that sound occours att different rpms... if your lucky your Crankshaft is not damaged.

  • Man that is def the piston/valve hitting. The cam should have been "tuned" adjusted at 60K, 100K, and 140K. Common problem wit the Yamaha's

  • Check the engine codes before making any serious assumptions. Check the spark plugs, make sure you dont have a loose or broken one, I had a similar sound once with a broken spark plug. You also may have a bad camshaft position sensor. The camshaft issue others are speaking of typically only happens on the V8 SHO's. I'd also suggest you hit up one of the Taurus clubs.
