@pippicat Yeah and it's not diminished today - she's possibly even better - heard her with Finbar Furey Walking With Me Darling - in a lower register and pure and sweet as ever. Bit hard to find her cd's down here (Oz) hope she comes back soon and her record company gets off its arse..

Stunningly beautiful. I can only imagine what the McGarrigles' heavenly harmonies might have sounded like wedded to Mary Black's powerful and poignant voice.

Wow! Such a beautiful cover! Mary Black at her best. I prefer this type of song and arrangement over some of the more overproduced songs on some of Mary's songs. She has an incredible voice and I love many of her songs...just don't care as much for ones that have a lot of overproduced arrangements as some of the later albums (or should say some songs...not all). This song is outstanding!!!
Vocals and arrangement.

@ Hi jkoncz.....back at you...Mary Black is a brilliant artist and a lovely woman.
I love the vocal richness of the McGarrigle harmony
and I love the mournful wisdom of this version by Black.
Renditions should not be, in my view, an attempt to replicate, but an opportunity to reinterpret and highlight other qualities in a song which may not have been previously expressed.
That a person prefers one version over another reflects more on her/him, than it does on the performer.
