Parrot beaks are designed for manipulating things to get food, e.g. cracking open nuts, de-husking seeds and foraging through substrates. Keepers place food in a tray of pebbles to encourage our macaws to use their beak to forage to get to the food.

Enrichment is used in zoos as a way of enhancing the environment an animal lives in. It's anything we do here at Auckland Zoo to encourage and stimulate natural behaviours in our animals.

For more information on the enrichment we do here at Auckland Zoo, visit our website: http://www.aucklandzoo.co.nz/explore-the-zoo/enrichment.aspx
