Since 2004 colleges and universities that received federal funds must acknowledge Constitution Day.
In an effort to educate more students about their rights, the First Amendment Free Food Festival was Thursday, September 17th, 2009. Students were offered a free lunch in Alumni Hall as long as they were willing to temporarily give-up their First Amendment Rights once they entered.
Members of the student media groups and volunteers enforced rules such as:
- No visible logos advertising a company, business or club unless it said "Quinnipiac"
- No gatherings larger than 3 people at a time
- No outside newspapers or books
- No public protests
- No visible religious symbols
- All press inquiries and announcements were censored by the Master Enforcer
