Mauricio Vallina ends his recital in Zürich with the Andrey Schulz-Elver Arabesques on themes from Johann Strauss' Beautiful Blue Danube. This is a real souffle of a piece, and requires mercurial playing to be pulled off. This is what we get. The sound world he develops is delicate and crystalline and his show-stopping performance is exhilarating and something to marvel at. What a gem. In the video recorded in 1999, Vallina does show off, but with this amazing reworking of Strauss, it would be a positive crime not to.

  • AWESOME!!!!

  • He plays it very well... but I hope his repertoire does not consist mainly of such silly pieces

  • A fabulous interpretation of a most difficult and crazy arrangement of the Blue Danube. Amazing contrast of colours and textures.

    Bravo !

(by the way Florestan also loves it.)

  • cool

  • Way too sloppy in my opinion. He could use a few more years of practice. :)

  • Por favor, señor, esto es un vals de Strauss, no una marcha, hagan el favor de escuchar a Jorge Bolet

  • 7:00 to 8:15 is probably Vallina's own transcription on the waltz.

  • wonderful!

  • Stupende, stuning !?! Brava...
