I just read an article about Mr. Powell that was in Sports Illustrated last week. I almost cried, he is a true inspiration. God bless Mike Powell.

Our values in the U.S. have gotten so out of whack, most can't recognize a MAN when they see one. Mike Powell, for those of you who wouldn't recognize one if one were to lend a hand and help you, is a man. People such as superbeast46 (who appears to be neither super, nor a beast, but likely the owner of an IQ of 46) will never understand why people such as Mike Powell are so important in the lives of high school athletes. Stay on the couch, superbeast46, and play your video games.

@thesuperbeast46 Really no point? He was on the edge of dying due to the disease he sadly had. The reason he didn't back down and act like the pussy you are is because he wanted to show his students and athletes that he was never going to let anything stop him. He took many troubled teens and turned their lives around. Showed them what it meant to have purpose in life and how they should be acting instead of staying in gangs and becoming criminals. What have you done?

So glad a wider audience is having a chance to see the incredible man Coach Powell is. We are in Champaign at state, where he is an inspiration to all our wrestlers, the ones heading to first place and even the ones who didn't advance to an opportunity for the medal stand. All of them adore him. I am so lucky my three sons have him in their lives. And Chris Ballard at SI did a great job.
