I'm a girl gamer and i don't play the bright colorful games anymore then the dark serious games. I don't care what the game looks like or how the women in it look. If it is a good game, I play it. I play all kinds of games and the way they are advertised hasn't affected me.

@MrXtheManimal Not necessarily. It depends on how the girls in the commercial are portrayed. For example, I've seen a Game Fly commercial where a normal looking (and attractive) woman is talking about how great the service is. I don't think of this is meant to be objectification.

Unfortunately if you play games long enough, particularly the online games. You will see just how sexist men can be. It hasn't really improved much.
They will declare you a "G.I.R.L" or just flat out say you are a man, and demand a picture as evidence. Regardless of the fact that it has absolutely nothing to do with your opinion or knowledge in a matter. But they will demand it just the same, and use it as a means to disregard your opinions and demean your person.

Why can't guys play the cutesy games too? I am a male gamer and I play Sonic, Mario, and Zelda games as well as hardcore rpgs and shooters like Skyrim, the witcher, Halo, Gears of War. Gameplay is what matters most to me. While Lara Croft is used as a sex object, the Tomb Raider series is still fantastic and you can't deny the influence the early titles had on 3D gaming. Alyx Vance from Half-Life 2 is a good example of an interesting female character who is not portrayed as a sex object.

I have to say, my favorite game series is Xenosaga. Not only is the gameplay great, two was a bit lacking, but the story is very deep. I love that it incorporates Nietzsches philosophies. I really do recommend it if you haven't already played, wonderful rpg. I also like Castlevania, but then I like supernatural grotesque creatures in general. *shrug* I suppose a cutesy game I play is Viva Pinata, but I've met all kinds of people who adore that game. I just like the ecosystem factor in it. :3

You are the first gamer girl I met who hasn't babbled on and on about 'don't be mad if I beat you cause I'm a girl' and blah blah blah. You just give a theory/your belief as to how gaming and woman's involvement in it came about. I actually like this video. You're intelligent and not going on about your looks and whatnot. And you're not crazy either. I've met way too many gamer girls that focus on the fact that they're female, and they're just nuts...I'm a girl and can't even stand that. >_>'''

What game is that at 3:34?
i enjoyed your video a lot, and i agree a lot with what you were saying, i hope in the future they'll realize that there is a big market out there for girl gamers and make games that girls will really enjoy, by the way you mentioned you dont play a lot of rpgs, so what kind of games do you play?

@bladeshot7 Since I made this video I've found that I was just playing the wrong RPGs and it was giving me a bad impression of the genre. I really enjoy Skyrim, I can't stop playing. In general though my favorite genre is probably platforming.

As if the male characters in video games aren't objectified just the same! Every male is hyper-masculine with huge exaggerated muscle mass. The females are objectified equally I'd say with hyper-feminine curves that are also exaggerated. I have no problem with it at all because part of gaming is to fantasize about being the character in the game. Nobody wants to be them self. Games would be dull if they just mimicked real life. Part of gaming is about escaping real life and fantasizing.

@NautyKnight That's a strawman's fallacy. Male characters are a power fantasy, female characters are a sexual fantasy. There's a difference, though I'm not saying either one is right.
