The quiet island of Caldey in Pembrokeshire, Wales, UK. The island is owned by benedictine monks and the lighthouse was built on the site of an old chapel in 1829 (hense Chapel Point).

The island is well worth a visit. More at http://www.caldey-island.co.uk/

  • Nice video.

What are the two holes in the tower for?

  • @WorldWideLighthouses Windows. The walls are very think!

  • @hellooldchap Oh, Seems odd that they would fill in original windows and then make circular ones in the same place.

How long is the boat crossing by the way? As long as a trip to the farnes?

  • @WorldWideLighthouses Boat was about 25 mins, and they have one leave every 20min or so. You can spend a whole day on the island.

  • Our lighthouse sits on a high perch; giving it a focal plane of 55 meters above seal level. The fog signal building is at the bottom; outside the station. It sits in a similar building like at Pen Anglas fog signal station. I have yet to take photos.

  • @hellooldchap Ah right. It looks to be an interesting place, with some unusual buildings!

We were thinking of a week in Pembrokeshire this month, but i don't know if we'll go.
