I thought it was awesome. Good tactics by Taraje.

You know I see tons of complaints about the American and his tactics. Well, I noticed the Japanese fighter would back off continually when it hit the mat? Is he from the Kodokan? Don't they do a lot of ground techniques? He came close with the arm bar but had TONS of opportunities to go for the choke.
-
How about some ground work?

@sinister0077 If you trained with Dynell than you know what he is capable of. Him and Taraje have had some good matchs against each other. Taraje is the 2x Olympian , but I was just stating an opinion. Dynell Pinder would have been a solid for the states.

@MrKidaff Taraje fought a great match indeed. I take nothing away from him ! He is a great athlete, but I just never thought he showed variety of technique. I dont care what you say, good JUDO/ technique wins matchs.

You dont fight a traditional style against a fighter like Hiroaka. Taraje did exactly what he shouldve against that particular opponent. Ive trained with him (and Darnell) they have great technique!
-
Could have at least gotten the names of *both* athletes right...
-
@MrKidaff CORRECT!

@starrettcitykid what are you talking about???? he beat the number one seed in the first round! (even though he doesn't deserved the win, but that is a whole other discussion)
Hiroaka was the clear favourite and in fantasy judo, he had nearly 35% percent of the votes, due to his fantastic 2008 season.
technique is the not taraje's force, so he use tactics to defeat a judoka which is superior in every other way!!!!

Taraje is a good dude and friend, but on the judo side of things never really thought that highly of him as a judoka. I always thought he lacked technique. ~Dynell Pinder from the USA would have represented the states way better in the -60KG weight Class. For anybody who knows USA JUDO, knows who Dynell Pinder is.
This match represents *EVERTHING* that is wrong with competitive Judo in the lightweight division. It is matches like this that practically forced the IJF's hand to change the rules to prevent the B.S. tactics used by the American. It's a good thing that most of the time the ones that win big tournaments actually go for the ippon.
