September 29, 2011 -- Rep. Luis V. Gutierrez (D-IL) spoke with Fox Chicago (WFLD-TV) Political Director Mike Flannery about a judge's ruling this week upholding parts of HB56, the State of Alabama's law targeting immigrants in the U.S. illegally. Included are the consequences for public health, the economy, education and the likelihood -- or unlikelihood -- that Illinois would ever follow suit. Also interviewed are Chicago area opponents of immigration who praise the judge's ruling.
@NoiseCollector You don’t know about the Dixiecrats? They were the States' Rights Democratic Party and were a segregationist political party. They left the Democratic Party in 1948 to protect the southern way of life that aimed to dismantle the federal government. Supporters assumed control of the state Democratic parties in several Southern states. The Dixiecrats opposed racial integration and wanted to retain Jim Crow laws and white supremacy in the face of possible federal intervention.

What do Alabama, Louisiana and the Southern racist states have in common? They celebrate the Confederacy and everything that is Un-American. To begin with, those who honor the Confederacy over the Union are either ignorant of history or just racists. Any honor given to those who killed thousands of Americans in an effort to oppose equality and keep slaves, makes a mockery to all the USA stands for and is an insult and a slap on the face of freedom. BOYCOTT ALABAMA!!!

This is at the root of the problem with the South: The Confederacy’s founders announced it themselves that they had created a republic whose “cornerstone” (as Confederate Vice President Alexander Stephens declared in the "Cornerstone Speech") was the principle that “slavery, subordination to the superior race,” was the “natural and moral condition” of black Americans. Slavery was the reason for the Civil War; the other complaints were only excuses just like the excuses to hate Mexicans today.

Alabama honors the Confederacy rather than the Union, and anyone who honors the Confederacy, their heritage and flag are either ignorant of history or just racists. Any honor given to those who killed thousands of Americans in an effort to oppose equality and keep slaves, makes a mockery to all the USA stands for and is an insult to freedom. Why do Alabama, Texas and other Southern states celebrate (and even call “heroes”) people who stood for everything that is Un-American?

Confederate-Secessionists Republicans, like Rick Perry, fight to dismantle individual rights such as the right to assemble, labor unions and all the American institutions that prohibit them (the States) from running the States like a Confederate plantations by maintaining slave-like employees at various locations. People need to discard all that rhetoric of the Confederacy and their “State Rights” and fight instead harder than ever to protect our “Individual Rights” while we still can.

@NoiseCollector Today, they call themselves “Republicans” or “Tea Partiers,” and you are wrong to say that the Constitution is "a document that ‘LIMITS’ federal power and ‘PROTECTS STATE RIGHTS.’ The Constitution intends to protect us (the People) from governments (States). It is about our individual rights to pursue life, liberty and happiness, and it is unconstitutional for governments to treat the People like things or children, telling us what is moral and what is immoral.

@samcabazos Uhhh.... wrong. I support the tea party and my ancestors fought against the democrats. I descend from a native american union sharp shooter and he was a republican. What the left has blinded you to is the fact that the constitution was created to protect the REPUBLIC against TYRANNY of a federal government. Read the 10th amendment and federalist papers. You can google all this, I am not making it up. The last part sentence of yours is correct so maybe there is hope for you.

@NoiseCollector You say that the "confederates and the secessionist ‘were’ democrats.” Today, they call themselves “Republicans” or “Tea Partiers.” You are wrong to say that the Constitution is "a document that ‘LIMITS’ federal power and ‘PROTECTS STATE RIGHTS.’ The Constitution intends to protect us (the People) from governments (States).
