Jim Stiles moved to socially-conservative Moab, Utah in the mid-1970s from Kentucky. In 1989 he began publishing the politically-progressive Canyon Country Zephyr entirely by himself. Widely recognized as one of the best indie papers in the American West, The Zephyr combines humor, history, honesty and artistry in its coverage of environmental issues. Jim has been influential in my desiring to learn to practice a more thoughtful-low-impact living style on this planet.

We owe many degrees of gratitude for his diligence and written concern in illuminating issues that affect all of us.

Jim has consistently been a sayer-of-the-truth as it pertains to the western ground we all walk on top of as well as the serene places that have not been trampled down by the religiosity of advanced consumerism.

His advocacy of slowing growth for growth's sake and for championing causes that politicians see as hot button issues... however will not lift their fingers... to affect considerable life-giving change; goes to show by example that Jim is our voice for stewardship of our lands.
