Harry Rodenburg, my grandfather, passed away this Thanksgiving at the age of 92 and he will be dearly missed. This song is a small part of his history, having survived as a POW in China during WWII. He kept a notebook with him through it all and documented a lot of his experiences of the prison camp and the war. This song is a poem that he wrote after a bombing while he was stationed at "The Rock" before he was taken prisoner. There wasn't much troop deployment in China because a majority of the troops were being sent to Europe...thus the title and theme of the song.
