  • You know what would be a really great idea? It takes average folks some time to decide what to give up for Lent and what extra prayers to say. In fact, it can take as much as three weeks. I think the church should set aside the three weeks before Lent to encourage people to get ready for it.

  • A "dog collard priest"!

  • sorry.. Thumbs down was meant for theonewillcome. Not you

  • seems crazy to me. Sounds like fairy tales like the 3 bears.

  • theone,

So you can see that Ash Wednesday is about repentance, prayer, fasting (40 days) - turning back to God. When the mark is applied, it is accompanied by the words "Remember that you are dust and unto dust you will return."

If you have any other ??? about Catholicism, I'm happy to answer you...

For ex, Purgatory is 1 Cor 3:15

Healing of the Sick: James 5:14-15

Venial and Mortal Sins: 1 John 5:16

Or more interesting things like why Jesus called his mother "Woman" etc

    God bless...

  • theonewillcome,

The Thau (Tau) was definitely a real mark in the shape of a cross. It is a sign of repentance.

See also Esther 4:1 - "...when Mordecai had heard these things ...strewing ashes on his head."

Jonah 3:5 - "...and put on the sackcloth..."

Dan 9:3 - "to pray and make supplication with fasting, sackcloth and ashes."

Matt 11:21 - "penance in sackcloth and ashes."

    (continued)

  • theonewillcome, Hi, there.

Ezechiel 9:4: "And the Lord said to him: Go through the midst of the city, through the midst of Jerusalem: and mark Thau upon the foreheads of the men that sigh, and mourn for all the abominations that are committed in the midst thereof.

Since Thau is the last letter in the Hebrew alphabet, it also signifies "a sign" or "a mark" and therefore some translators just say "mark" without specifying what the mark was.

  • Ok my friend, please show me where you came up with the word Tau from the Bible? Secondly please excuse my first message, I was a relatively new Christian and full of zeal, I realise now that being hurtful even though I mean well has the opposite effect! The Mark in Ezek 9 is the same as Gods seal, it is a Mark to show who you are loyal to, not a physical Mark/Seal, just like Cain received a Mark of rebellion when he murdered Abel and never repented!

    God bless!

  • It's called the mark of the Tau from Ezechiel 9:4 - by instruction from God. It is a sign of repentance - a deep sorry for sin and a turning back to God (usually accompanied by prayer and fasting). See also Dan 9:3, Matt 11:21, Jonah 3:5 and Esther 4:1

The seal if God is Confirmation - see 2 Cor 1:21, Eph 4:30, Acts 8:14-15
