While remodeling my house, I found that in the center bearing wall, some of the studs had notches with shims inserted into them. I have done a lot of remodeling, but I've never seen this. My thinking is that they did this to straighten out crooked lumber.

  • Thank you for posting this video. I used this technique to straighten a very warped stud in my kitchen. It would have been an incredible amount of work to replace it do to all the plumbing and wiring in the wall.
