That has a big Cam , I had a P Code Iris Mist , dark purple inside , AM-FM with Reverb ,no console ,Road Pack,HO 421,Early '65 up to Dec. Retained there steel crank . I bought this shortly after the engine a real HO had been Balanced and Blue Printed for $3500 in 1967 $.
I was lucky , the points were in wrong , Paid $1000 , high , I had found a Red on Black for $450 . Only saw one Iris Mist '65 2+2 , Loaded with everything ,I love these cars , check weight , like a '65 GTO with a Passenger !

In high school in 1988 I had a 66 2+2 with the 421 try-power. PWR BRK, STR, 8 lug wheels, AM/FM radio, manifold gauge, radio reverberator...it was awesome. The engine was shot. I used about 2 quarts of oil every 15 miles! It looked James Bond using a smoke screen when I was movin down the road. LOL! I still have it at mom and dads. I need to find somebody who restores old Pontiacs and have the old girl fixed up like new.

@navajopa31 my car was a 65 base catalina.it had poverty caps, std steering, std brakes.bench seat 4 speed,356 horse 421.the only other option was an AM radio.i got it after Vietnam with 50,000 miles.by the time it had 60,000 on the ticker it was getting about 25 miles to the quart of oil.i did way to much cruisin' and the tri carbs gas washed the cylinders stop lite racing and killed the rings.it was a wild 10,000 miles.top end was about 140 mph and saw it many times.now i drive a S-10 4 cyl!

@nomiclas I still have a picture of my 421 hanging on my hall wall. My professor brother could not believe that I would hang that picture on my wall. I told him that if he had "KNOWN" as many women as I did with that car he would have put the picture on his wall. It was a great car. Burned a little oil, but it was worth it. Then I got gut hooked by a woman who drove a green VW beetle and couldn't break the line. Married, sold the car and bought a Datsun 510 station wagon. Such is life.

@FireYourJOB I had one of theses. They were cold natured. It took a while for them to warm up. A lot of metal around those cylinders. After they warmed up they ran smooth.

@nomiclas Mine was a red convertable with a white top and factory mag wheels. I do not know what rear I had but it could take everything except the Hemi and the Chevy with the high horsepower 427. I did not waste my gas on Ford's. The light weight muscle cars like the GTO had the weight advantage so I did not race them. Pontiac does not know how many were produced but you can estimate that my model was probably between 600 and 1000 units. I dreamed about that car for years.

@navajopa31 snapping the upper compression ring on pontiac v-8s was an ongoing thing due to cast connecting rods.as miles grew and ring lands developed, one over rev would snap one or more compression rings.one other thing, the 356 hp was much more streetable than the H.O.in the big car.i had one and it had 3.42 and kicked some GTO butt.i can only imagine what it would have run like with a 3,90 gear?
sweet car ,old pontiacs rule ,that 421 sounds wicked , id like to see a fly by!
