Type in Motion Project
by Jason Wall & Brendan Weaver
YSDN 2009
"Writing the 416" is a hypothetical documentary film about graffiti in Toronto, Ontario. It investigates the relationship between the cityscape and the diverse people who shape it. The trailer combines footage of graffiti* and urban life with type created through various processes. Analog type is juxtaposed with digital type based on the Toronto transit system.
* We don't claim to be graffiti artists; we realize there are actually incredible writers in Toronto and that we are not them. For the sake of this hypothetical trailer with a tight timeline and no budget, we approached this project from a motion design point-of-view, with an emphasis on painting legible words rather than complex pieces. We'll leave the real painting to the masters.

@there544 - Thanks for the support. This trailer was an experimental project for a purely *hypothetical* documentary. So, in actuality, there is no "Writing the 416" film. There are some really sweet graffiti docs on youtube though; have a look around... Or maybe create a doc yourself? :D
