  • True . . They should adopt it from the DSLRs. (Dedicated play push button)

  • Just received the Ixus 85 IS. One disappointment - the switch between playback, video and camera shooting modes. This is bound to break.

Why did they not choose logic switching? Agrrrrr. I give this less than a year before it goes back for a refurb.

  • Dude . . EXACTLY the only drawback i too found. . darn . . that button is bound to break. What i've done is, i set the preview timer to 'hold', and not just display the last shot for 5 seconds. This way the last shot stays on the screen till u pass the camera around for people to have a look, reducing the strain/usage of that weak button !

Sorry i forgot to mention that button earlier. . . .

  • Just checked the custom button options and whilst it has video as an alternative , it doesn't have playback. Agrrrrr. Why not?

  • lol. . . good question !!

  • Got this from Canon which I think is a good answer: "I can confirm that the switch in question is made to the highest quality and made durable for every day use. This type of button is used on the majority of our IXUS range of cameras and we have not received any issues from our customers about its quality, longevity or failing prematurely. The design from Canon ..comes from in-depth research and development."

  • The above refers to the firmware version for my Ixus. To obtain this, just copy a blank "ver.req" file to the root of your sd card (do this on the computer make sure no txt extension). Reinsert SD card.Switch to play mode. Turn on and press the "FUNC.SET" button; keep pressed and then press the "DISP." button. This should echo the firmware version to your screen.

  • Not your fault. Had ordered it before I saw your video. However, I have sent a complaint to Canon UK hoping they address this issue with future models. The fact that you have to switch via video mode makes it even more annoying. But to not have just one logic button, or three for each option, is bizarre quite frankly.

  • I think some manufacturers do try it on occasionally. I remember my old Nikon FM2 (I've now switched to 40D) didn't have one
