Easily overlooked by Dolphy fans, "Ted Curson Group featuring Eric Dolphy" is perhaps a bit mistitled since it only features Eric on 2 of its 9 tracks. It's nevertheless a fine addition to the Dolphy discography. This session took place some time in April 1961 and has Ted Curson on trumpet, Eric Dolphy on flute, Jimmy Garison on bass, Danny Richmond on drums and Kenny Drew on piano.
I know next to nothing about this session and the cd - of wich my copy is not from the numbered, limited edition - has no liner notes at all. I do know, however, that Dolphy and Curson used to play together in Charles Mingus' band.
The album is released on the label Jazz View and is still possible to find on ebay.

I recently was asked to review and critique, Eric Dolphy. Why, I am not sure. However, after listening to several of his tracks, I find his trombone acumen impeccable. The music is not for me, if you like trombone solos, this is the place to be. Tony Dahlin Venice

Roy Haynes and Pete La Roca also played drums on this album, as did Bill Baron (tenor).
