The AP reports that "more than 80 percent of economists believe the recession is over." But they don't face up to the much higher unemployment and poverty in communities of color across the US. "The last full employment program was slavery and sharecropping," says Dorian Warren, Columbia University professor of Political Science. You can believe recovery has come to people of color, he goes on, "only if you drink the same Kool-aid of the same economists that brought us the recession in the first place." Check out this installment of "Facing it" on RaceWire, the ColorLines blog.

  • What is structurally wrong with our economy is the fact that it is a debt based economy. An economy that creates money out of DEBT creation rather than hard capital. Over 95% of the currency we have floating around is money that has no intrinsic value.
