You have to be kidding.
A Monte Carlo SS was SLOW. The GN would put bus lengths on it in the quarter mile.

i love the way it sounds sounds like a rig

For my money, the 86 and 87 GNs are the coolest cars GM ever made. The chainsaw sound is unmistakable. Even some basic mods yielded my friend 12 second 1/4 miles and a fun ass street car. Love em.

@label1877 uh yeah dude wtf kind of question is that??

@hpjim Am I missing something? A 3.8 and a 3800 are the same thing.

not bad for an antique

@VanCity1604 I wouldnt call a Delorean a collectors car either but it is... Look up the definition of a collector car!!! Pretty much any limited production car, or one that is in high demand because of its historical value!!!!

omg it jumped lol wow

@Sniperman1964 i wouldnt call a 96 impala a collectors car

@camirocz Agreed. I had a 1986 Mustang GT 5.0 with bolt ons and exhaust, and I was 3 for 5 against GN's, but only 2 of 4 against 'vettes. A friend had a GN that was chipped like you say, and then it did fly

The 89 Turbo trans Am was also a Corvette killer when it came out running low 13s stock.

To everyone it applies to, the GNX was the one that was faster than the vette, not the standard GN.
Just as GM starts to perfect a great car, they discontinue it. That is why GM blows!

Yes, lots of good ones have been discontinued, but this powerplant may come back in awesome form in about 9 years when the government puts the kabosh on V8's (sadly). We'll see.

@hpjim I know this is two years later but.. wasn't it Chevy that help put this power-plant six feet under? IIRC something about Buick having a faster car than their flag shit vehicle the Corvette.

@CrazyTacky Nah. It just turned sideways (transverse) in 88 cuz of the front wheel drive invasion in the late 80's. A supercharger on top replaced the turbo, then it went from 3.8 to a 3800. The Corvette thing was controversial in 1987, for the first time in history the Corvette wasn't the reigning American accelleration king. It was dethroned by a Buick. But not for long...
