Jones act cases and maritime law don't apply solely to people who are injured in the course of work on open water. They apply to a worker who's on a dock if they normally spend a significant portion of their time in open water, it can also apply to someone who doesn't work at all on a boat but is in fact a guest or simply a passenger on a boat that's in navigable waters. If you're injured in an accident on open water, that means any kind of major river, the ocean, whatever, you need a lawyer who's experienced with Maritime Law and Jones Act Law to investigate your case and to tell you what your rights are.
