Seat IBE Concept test

De elektrische auto maakt heel voorzichtig zijn debuut en zo langzamerhand is er geen enkele autofabrikant meer die geen model met batterijen en stekker in huis heeft. Veelal nog in een ontwikkelstadium, zoals de IBe van Seat. Op een fraai gelegen circuit in de buurt van Barcelona mochten we een paar rondjes maken in de stilste Seat ooit.

Seat's Leon III will arrive in a much more cautious Europe to spend money on a new car, or at least on a car that doesn't offer as much as the competition in terms of reliability, price and even image. So, what's gonna be? a Hyundai i30 that comes with a personal masseuse and a million years warranty or a Spanish re-interpretation of a WV Golf? If the last one, it'd better worth it.

I remember a few of them concept cars that never saw the green light - like Tribu, for instance, never to be produced despite it was publicly presented before Skoda's Yeti. OK, shall not SEAT produce anything based on Tiguan (like IBX concept) but then allow the Spanish brand to come up with a 2 seater sports coupe - its Tango concept - and thus to offer a special model in VAG's range (that, btw, has nothing to offer at a decent price : Audi TT is a premium priced toy).

There's a long way from the concept to the real thing. SEAT, just like Renault, is capable of producing great concepts but it unfortunately can't transform them into viable mass production items.
