Back in 1944 when I was a kid I used to waken everybody at 6am when i put this record on the old wind up grammaphone and jump around the parlor. What music, I love it

Louis' solo from 0:40 - 0:46, a mere 6 seconds - has to be some of the most moving 6 seconds in all of recorded jazz. As Leonard Bernstein remarked of Louis' playing, "..he does so with his whole soul." Then what does he do but play an equally-moving break at 1:06 - 1:13!
Louis was 58 at the time of this performance, he was on the road 300 days of the year, plane-bus-hotel-concert over and over, and he still could walk out on stage and play like this night after night as fresh as ever. Wow!!

I need to hurry up and move to New Orleans. I made it here to a job an hour away in Baton Rouge, but it's still not close enough. I need to feel the heartbeat of the city...

Louis Armstrong and the great musicians who played with him were class acts. Wish they all could be back today to play for those of us who love this music.

A classic tune performed by a true legend. I love his recordings from the 20's. They have so much character. Definitely look into those old recordings.
