I don't think it would be a horrible culture: He mentioned american stuff but even now, everybody knows what sushi is for example, or spaghetti or many things from all over the place. Consider that this will still be "background" culture, and, like today, it's up to the individual to build their own education and make their own choices :-) - Most about being opposed to this "new culture" is because these grups maintain power and status quo based on the current situation

PS: That we have not seen evidence of Type 1,2,or 3 civilization in our SETI program, is not conclusive evidence that we are alone, or that advanced civilizations are few in number. We may simply be extrapolating into the future our primitive values of progressive materialism and consumerism, when in fact, that assumption is false. Indeed thinking that way may be a reason for civilizations to fail, in war and ecological collapse.

There are +ve/-ve aspects to the transition from type 0 to type 1 civilization on the Kardeshev scale. If a civilization choose not to go that way, it does not necessarily mean those civilizations "failed", that assumes a value system that fails/passes a civilization on the basis of energy consumption. Likewise, it is not necessarily so that a civilization that does not make the transition is doomed to extinction. Significant and advanced civilizations need not be based on such an assumption.

its not that we forget it, I think people's simply too lazy: If you only wanted, you could, for instance, find out how to build an electric guitar simply with an internet connection and a little bit of patience...but very few people do these kind of things. So in a way, I believe that the culture as in all entertainment, religious political and technical developments is widely available these days...problem is - we are a lazy generation, too used to have it all served on our plates, my 2cents!
