On November 13, 1992 undefeated and undisputed heavyweight world champion Evander "The Real Deal" Holyfield made the fourth defense of his crown against unbeaten top contender Riddick "Big Daddy" Bowe at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Many fight fans and boxing experts predicted a tough and exciting battle, but no one could expect the drama delivered by both champion's in one of the greatest heavyweight war's since the era of Muhammad Ali, Joe Frazier and others.
From the beginning, both Holyfield and Bowe exchanged heavy bombs and stood toe-to-toe. It was the challenger, Riddick Bowe, though, who had more success and landed the better shots. Known for his heart and fighting spirit, Holyfield did not let his fans down and gave all he had, trying to match Bowe punch for punch.
What was already a special night, turned into an extraordinary one in the legendary tenth round. What started to look like the final round in Holyfield's championship reign, turned out to be one of the greatest display's of warrior mentality and courage ever displayed inside a boxing ring and is exemplary for the career of Evander Holyfield. HBO blow-by-blow commentator Jim Lampley famously said during the round: "Look at Holyfield, what a warrior!"
Despite his courageos effort's, it was Riddick Bowe who went on to win the heavyweight title by unanimous decision. And make no mistake, Bowe fought with a great amount of heart and spirit as well. He deserved to become champion that night.
Both Holyfield and Bowe went on to battle each other for two more times. The rematch was won by Holyfield, who became one of the few man ever to capture the heavyweight crown a second time, and the third by Bowe. They delivered one of boxing's all-time greatest trilogies and cemented their place in the history of the sweet science.
Enjoy this video of the famous, brutal and spirtied tenth round of Holyfield vs. Bowe I in the original HBO broadcast. Calling those three great minutes are Jim Lampley, Larry Merchant and former heavyweight champion George Foreman.

Fuck MMA. Those faggot wrestlers will never be able to put on a show like that playing grab ass on the ground or throwing punches like my girl throws a football. American HW champ and Boxing is back to rule the roost. Period.

Bowe was one of the best of the 90s. He deserves to be equally famous as Tyson and Holyfield.

He would deserve if he had been hard-working and mobilized. He had an amazing talent but he lost a great chance.

It would be cool. My personal prediction is that there will be a few rare talented fighters, who can fight with their hands down, like Ali, Jones, Silva, etc. and actually use there hands down to avoid td's, but also dodging and maintaining proper distance. I'd like to see someone rather acrobatic and unorthodox on the ground, like sakuraba. except saku wasn't naturally gifted, just good technique and unorthodox. Someone who can do flips and twists to gain position quickly and accurately.

Silva is the best at mma today, but when kids start mma at like 5 years old or something, with the evolution of mma, and it becomes common, then silva will have his legacy put to test.

Yes, Silva is the best today, but I mean that he wont be the best ever. Ali proved that he was the best ever, in a 100+ year old sport. and Silva has shown that someone will come who would beat him, after the sonnen fight. You could say Ali had frazier, and silva had sonnen, but the difference is that no one was better than frazier against ali's weakness (and ali was past prime) and sonnen isnt the best wrestler. Frazier was an atg, Sonnen has a lon of losses, and is 1 dimensional. cont

of course there will always be someone better eventually, that goes every sport, but Silva still has plenty time left, you act like he is old getting ready to retire already, hes gona be around for a long while still, and he is a skinny ass dude and woops people bigger than him, he fought in the heavy weight because he beats everyone in his lightweight division. Ali and Tyson were the best in there time but they dont even fight anymore, they there time is up now.. Silva is the best in mma today
