Good left hand technique is essential to playing guitar. Without it you may always be unable to play the things you aspire to. Poor technique can also in the long run damage the hands and cause physical problems such as carpal tunnel syndrome among others. In this lesson Mike Williams from www.ShredGuitarAcademy.com will show you the basics of good left hand positioning for maximum dexterity with minimum effort.

  • Okay thanks! I been playing for 3 years but just started trying to learn the "correct" way a few days ago. I'll upload a video when I get the chance. Oh and thanks for actually replying =P

  • @nocnok444 You probably just need to be a bit more patient. Sometimes getting a new technique down takes months, even years. The flexibility, strength, agility, muscle endurance etc. required to do certain things isn't going to happen in 3 days. I am super busy but send me a link to your video and I will do my best to reply ;D \m/

  • What do you for your thumb if you are double jointed? I cant seem to do this... I am double jointed in every finger and my hands are only 6 inches. Help anyone?

  • @nocnok444 I'm not really sure. I can only be so much help to people on YouTube. I can't really be sure what to suggest unless I can see what is happening. If you upload a video of whats going on maybe I can help but I've never seen anyone who can't do it with enough practice. Some stuff can take months and years to develop. \m/

  • i prefer my thumb to me more at the left pointing and diagonally to the left...but i try this one if it works better..

  • @Codsrock Some people need to work on flexibility to get their thumb straight up. But it's balanced that way. It is physically impossible to have it balanced between all fingers if it is out to the side. Be sure to check out part 2 as well for more info on this stuff \m/

  • Hey, ive been palying for 2 years now and i bend my wrist too much like you are showing is the wrong way and this vid really helped me alot since my stamina was off because my wrist would get sore as hell, im having trouble incorporating the correct position into my playing, can you make a video on a few excercises to help with the position?

  • @supersnipah08 accept my friend invitation please. i've made a message for you on your problem, but i can't message you as you got "friendlock" on ;)

  • @supersnipah08 Sorry can't really help without being able to see whats happening. You can probably get a tool for a bridge at a music store.
