A fantastic free and open source alternative to Flash has just become available. It's called "Burster" and it's a browser plugin for the incredibly powerful Blender Game Engine. This is a demo of the kind of game you can make with it.

Burster is better than Flash (imo), plus the editor and browser plugin are free and Open Source.

This game demo shows off some physics provided by the Bullet Physics engine.

@nigelthor Hm I gave this to a friend who has windows 7 and it didn't work on his machine. Do you have windows 7? If so, then I might guess it has something to do with that.
