Recorded live using an Olympus 770c. This is the full version, 10 Minutes long. Cousins and Lambert rule!! My thanks to Dave Cousins for meeting me after the show and for allowing filming at the venue. A true gem of a man. My apologies for singing along to this, but it is simply the greatest love song of them all. (Well close, anyway!) Enjoy.

  • Absolutely amazing song. I saw the strawbs playing this song acoustic a couple of weeks ago and it had to be one of the best performances I've seen. Has to be my favourite song by em. It's even inspired my college music compositions!

    Cheers for uploadin this matey!

  • You are very welcome. It is simply beautiful. The seagul at the beginning is Chas Cronk - brilliant!

  • In the History of great melancholic creations, few could surpass this beautiful composition's ability to penetrate to the core of one's most deeply felt emotions. The poignant simplicity of these lyrics, paired with the accompanying swirling, ascending musical verbalism, envelops a listener with a sense of quiet satisfaction. Tranquility comes with the knowledge that the prospect/hope of unconditional love is universal and achievable. The power of Strawbs music to rekindle optimism is eternal

  • Lush, powerful music, gorgeous melody, sweet, sweet guitar sound (like Ackerman from Focus). This song and Hero and Heroine make me cry every time. They just slam you completely with their beauty. There's nowhere to hide.

  • @BlueAndWhiteZebra Is it not Dave Lambert on his guitar? I saw the Strawbs on Friday night and they played this and Dave Lambert was making the seagull sound on his guitar!! They were fantastic too!!!

  • This is one of the greatest songs og Strawbs. Bought this record in early '70s in Copenhagen. Hero & Heroine, what a title !

Just love this band, so hard, so sad, so .... emotions.

    B.t.w. 1:st album is a real GEM. SO ....

    Best to You

    Mr Per Olsson

  • What would it take to get them to Florida?

  • Saw them 4 or 5 times with the electric band a few tears back up in Toronto. I was so thrillled that I got to have my wife hear the muic that made up my young heart.

Thanks to Neal and the crew, but for me, a special thanks to the now-retired John Hawken, who spent well over 30 minutes chatting with us, What a classy and truly nice man. I will miss him a great deal at any possible North America electric shows (We call that a "hint" over here, Dave!)

  • TREMENDOUS song. From an era of music like no other. Truly a classic. Thank you so much for sharing!

  • Tengo mucho tiempo buscando ese tema porque es el mejor tema que se haya grabado de todos los que he eschuchado de esos tiempos. definitivamente es el mejor.

  • @Priyesh0804 funny, I'm listening to it there right now

  • I must have the words to this great song, too forgotten

  • The thing that strikes me is that one never tires of a song like this; on the contrary, it seems to get better, and certainly more poignant, as one gets older. This is deathless music.

  • I wish I had only known! I would have come over from Toronto to see them. I saw the Strawbs just once live at Loughborough University in England. The whole experience of that concert blew me away.
