u still gotta water if once in awhile but from a reliability stand point u cant beat it, no air or water pumps to fail ,no energy use and great results..i upscale to 20-50 gallon tubs for outside.but u gotta add drain holes for rain overflow at top of gravel line.peace

dude, this is not hydroponics, you have a bin full of soil, you may as well just fill the entire box with soil and water it normally and save yourself the time of making all the other stuff you did in this video. hydroponics = NO SOIL. your entire system is completely unworkable for a hydroponic system. i dont wanna be a dick but the vid title is misleading

I use self-watering buckets outside but never thought about using them inside, even to start the seedlings. I would think that you would need to have the container near a big window so that it gets sufficient sunlight, but what happens when it gets as tall as you mentioned? I just shot a video today showing five weeks into the 2011 season using 14 buckets. Are you growing anything outside this year? I also blog at MammaBlogga . com , often just adding some updates still shots rather than videos.
