She had them all in her hands!

She is such an artist and a marvellous woman! I love her accent, thay regal kind of accent where you can't tell if she's from the US or Britain... and her voice is so beautiful and lush...

Let's not forget that after age 13, Callas didn't speak much English in everyday life. From 13 to 21, she spoke mainly Greek as she studied in Greece, and after 1947, she spoke mostly Italian. And most of the contact she had with English-speakers was with the very British Walter Legge and Lord Harewood. And being a very quick absorber of languages and accents and dialects, she probably started speaking more and more like Legge and Harewood.

You go, La Divina! BTW, that's more of a "mid-Atlantic" accent, or what people living in an imaginary island midway between the States and England would speak. Taught to all Hollywood actors ("I cahn't stahnd it!"). Frank Sinatra had it for a while, until the 1980's when he finally let loose his Hobokenese. I'd kill to hear La Callas talk in her native Noo Yawk accent, Astoria dialect!

Maria is really laying on the bologna here. Whenever she felt uncomfortable she went into her "Titled Lady" accent. What a hoot!

She has a rather strong, proper New England accent.
