Hey people, how can you tell if you have the updated parts? Thanks
-
@WACWichita after a few million years of research the gun i would recommend is the sig 556. good old simple piston 5.56 gun. time tested and battle proven. accepts ar-15 mags. can get for 1,200.

@WACWichita ...if it no longer wears on the pin front of the buffer tube - then you have yourself a lifetime-rifle ;-)
-
@WACWichita ~ They'll put a new buffer tube on after reworking the BCG... It will still 'wear black', albeit not as severe. And as long as it doesn't get exponentially worse over time - you're golden. And if after awhile you want to see it pretty again - replace the tube. No biggy. * As long as it is NOT wearing the top off that spring-loading pin* - it's okay. The thing to watch is that pin. It should NOT be getting ANY wear.

@Megzamani ~ Tell them you want the NEW BCG design or your existing BCG re-worked. THAT is the solution. And polishing of the chamber/ramps, etc. We paid big bucks for what we perceived as the creme de la creme. So don't take no for an answer. Be polite, but insist. They will make it good...

@WACWichita ~ ...not reworking the inexpensive aluminum buffer tube. Changing it's milspec dimensions would be unwise. It seems the original design, while they've removed ALOT of friction surface compared to other AR bolt designs, they simply left too much metal on the butt end of the BCG. So now they are replacing and/or beveling the existing ones as they come into their shop. A fine gun, but this is what you all REALLY want. TRUTH. NOT DECEPTIVE PRACTICES.
-
@HellaFlushEvo ~ What they are doing is 'quietly' machining or replacing the butt-end of the BCG if you send it back due to carrier tilt/jams. And NOT listing that fact on the packing slip. ie, not disclosing unless you notice & expressly ask them. As if serious gunners are #$ng stupid & wouldn't notice. Because we are the ones detail-stripping & inspecting our own weapons...

@JonnyRend ~ I own one, bought in early 2011, never got more than a few hundreds rounds thru it when I had to return it due to stovepipes/extract fails. I've not fired it yet since it came back, but I'm confident it'll be okay. PM me if you want details. In short, I'd say don't be afraid to buy it but be quick to send it to Ruger if you have these probs.

@WACWichita I've been lurking on several forums, and that seems to be the general consensus. I've got an opportunity to buy an SR-556 now for $1300 with about 400 rds through it, and about $1000 worth of extras that would come with it. After all this research I've been doing I'm kinda leaning towards not buying it. I don't know if the guy selling it has the "fixed" bcg or the orignal one. Do you have any experience with the SR-556?

What they do when you ship your rifle back for repair is sneak in a new BCG. To avoid mass recall. And not put it on the packing slip.
good job ruger!
