  • hihi! may i kno y is seu teck siang tng doin ritual @ ngee ann city?

  • I don't know. But the connection I can see is that Ngee Ann City is part-owned by the Ngee Ann Kongsi which is a Teochew association. The grounds there originally belongs to the Ngee Ann Kongsi. [Ngee Ann is the historical name for the Teochew region of Guangdong Province]

  • i think whatever it is, please dun critise any religion. all religion exist for a reason, has it root n origin and power. Bottomline, no religion teach pple to do bad thing, so it does not matter which u believe in.

    So, dun comment thing on religion which will offend pple, like ridiculous body spasms etc.

    Cheers

  • @zaxle12

    "Taoism ridiculous with bodily spasms when certain rites are performed"..please elaborate..thanks.

  • Are you not also implying the ridiculousness of Taoism in which there are similar bodily spasms when certain rites are performed? You are simply not addressing the issue! Don't ever stray into religious matters and offend religious sensibilities.

  • @nusld

    Singapore embraces religious freedom, What's wrong with youngsters being converted into Christianity? Being a Christian doesn;t mean denying one's cultural roots.

  • Good..at least have some sort of Asian religious traditions..or else Singapore is fast becoming a society without a soul where the chinese youngsters are all being converted into Christianity and OMG, speaking in tongue,arms shaking..

  • tankegui, this is not 德教。

    善堂culture and beliefs is a mixture of Buddhism and Folk culture. the main idol of worship in all 善堂 is 宋大峰祖师 ,a historical Buddhist monk who went to chaozhou to help the needy.

    In teochew districs of ancient China, these 善堂 also function as charity organisations. 善堂 s in Singapore, malaysia and Thailand are still very much involved in many religious and charity work in the Chinese community.

  • 4)Zi Jing Ge of Hong Kong.

    ... On the walls of the worship hall are portraits of Confucius, Lao-tsu, Sakyamuni ( Buddha ), and Christ, and a frame with a moon cresent and star signifying the founder of Islam.""

  • 3)..for men}

    智 wisdom,zhi4; 义 righteousness,yi4; 礼 propriety,li3; 仁benevolence,ren2; 耻 sensibility to shame,chi3;? [慷慨?] unselfishness, ?;

    NB:Chinese word given in the article for unselfishness is simplified to 帘 [HYPY: lian2] and meaning "wine shop sign"! not "unselfishness" !

    It is claimed that the five great world religions have these virtues in common with Dejiao..

    Objects of worship in Dejiao differ somewhat according to org. but article concentrated on the Zi Jing Ge of Hong Kong.
