One of my favorite Santana tunes from the Abraxas album.
I worked up this fingerstyle arrangement by request for my friend Gary Lennon. Gary had me play this as a surprise for our friend Colleen from California who was coming to OKC for Gary's one man show at a local art gallery.

The jam at the end is mostly improvised with a few Carlos licks thrown in to keep the Santana spirit alive.

I used a Boss loop sampler near the end. I then soloed over the changes laid down on the sampler.

  • Wonderful and all the other other acolades I can think of. ***** May I ask what kind of guitar that is? The writng on headstock seems to say Martin but I have several Martins so that can't be it. Sherrill

This is an Australian brand. It is a Maton, Tommy Emmanuel model.

  • This is awesome man. What key is this song in? I use a slightly modified version of the pentatonic minor A.

    Thank you for your comment,

The song is actually in the key of G. It starts in Am. The solos are played in G major.

  • One of best versions I've heard - Shame about the Mic!

  • very nice!

  • Hi mark I've been watching quite a few of your videos and they are ace! Really was just wondering what the technique you use at 3:16 is? That like a chord structure with hammer-ons based around it in the scale? Can't quite see whats happening there? Heard you use similar techniques across your videos but i really want to master that little lick (not necessarily that same one) for my own cover of 'pride and joy' by SRV
