They ARE live steam. Disney Imagineers Roger Broggie and Earl Vilmer found and purchased the locomotives from Ferrocarriles Unidos de Yucatan (United Railways of Yucatan) on Mexico's Yucatan peninsula in 1969. They were completely torn down and rebuilt.
If that's a diesel engine making it run.SEND IT TO THE SCRAP YARD SO THEY CAN MAKE A REAL STEAMER OUT OF IT !!!!!!! but if it is a real steamer that's one pretty locomotive.
You better believe it is. This engine is named after one of Walt Disney's original imagineers and is the twin to the "Walter E. Disney" at Disney World. The two engines had original serial numbers that were one digit off from the Baldwin factory, hauled sugar in Mexico for most of their life and now are both at WDW. They have never been apart from each other since they were built.
