Rustle of Spring Op.32,No.3 was composed by the Norwegian Composer Christian Sinding in 1896. It is a perennial favourite amongst both amateur and professional pianists.

I wasn't 100% happy with my performance in this video to be honest, but it was the best of several recorded attempts I made. As an amateur performer, I always feel that my performances can be improved upon given more time and practice. I continue to strive for perfection though, whether or not it is ever really attainable, at least for an amateur performer.

Footnote:
There seems to be a few negative comments about the tempo that I've chosen to play this piece. I thought I'd try and explain my tempo choice.
I am an amateur, not professional, performer. The tempo I chose was the correct tempo for me to make an error-free performance. This, I'd prefer, over a slightly faster, but errorful performance. Thats just my personal choice. Listen to the other (amateur) performances of this piece and you'll hear that, although they may be played faster, they are also full of errors, vague phrasing and changes of tempo etc. I chose the tempo which was suitable for my own amateur abilities and for the performance I wanted to do.
Also, why does "Spring" represent the notion of "speed" or have to be fast? To me it sums up a stirring, a beginning anew of life and Nature in bloom. Does that necessarily mean fast? I dont think so. I think our tastes have been swayed over the years by listening to professional virtuoso performers who play at an incredible, almost "show off" tempo.
I rest my case and this is my final word on the matter.
Many thanks

  • I also prefer your tempo choice. Well played (such a difficult piece, and has driven me mad for years!!) : + )

    P.S. I like your playing...

  • Thank you everyone who posted comments recently...

  • It seems that every note is the same volume. Are you playing on a keyboard?

  • Digital Piano. The dynamic range is a lot less than on an acoustic piano.

  • Beautiful !! :)

    5*s

    Best wishes.

  • Sorry ,but the slow tempo spoils this piece, which should be played brillante.

I think a few errors at speed are acceptable.(we can't all be Kissen). I t really is not worth listening to in a slow tempo.

If you listen to the version on YouTube played on a 1930's Bluthner, you'll see what I mean.

Playing is a wonderful pastime, isn't it?

I've been a pianist for 50 years and never tire of it.

    Whatever you do,enjoy!

  • This is wonderful. About 40 years ago I got a 33 record with this on it and played the first part of it over and over until I could play it a little. (: I wish I could play like you!

  • Absolutely wonderful. This is my favorite song my mom used to play for me when I was little. This is the first time I've heard it played since she died 20 yrs ago, and it took my breath away.

    Thank you for sharing!

  • i do think it's a bit slow, but i must say u have great control....

sometimes playing it slower is more difficult than playing it fast ;)

  • @ybravura it wasnt music critic! just an advice :)

  • @headliners50 The trouble with classical music at YouTube is that it attracts the type of fellow who seems to think his job is Music Critic by Divine Right, and he must make some derisive comment about the performance.

Yeah, I've heard better recordings on CD, but I enjoyed this performance greatly just the same.

  • I think you should start at a low tempo, that will make it better.

  • Hehe this i good. I have the music i just havnt tried it yet. Really well done this is good, although it would be a million times better will a pedal on a real piano but still well done......woah im seeing black dots :O

  • for the most part, it was well played. you might want to work a bit more on your right hand, which sometimes gets kind of mashed together

with these kinds of pieces, it's always important to start slow and gradually speed up so the rhythm is preserved, especially if you're going to play it at a slower tempo: if you were playing faster, the mashings wouldn't be so noticeable

also, i've noticed there seem to be two different versions of the seventh measure... thoughts?
