I'm a 3rd DAN Black Belt Shito Ryu practitioner who loves both versions of Unsu (Shito Ryu and Shotokan). Sensei Nakayama (Head of the JKA) tells in one of his books that Master Funakoshi sent him with other 2 members of the JKA to Osaka to learn under Master Mabuni (Founder of Shito Ryu and a living Encyclopedia of Kata) Unsu, Gojushiho and Niseishi (Nijushiho in Shotokan).
Hope this clarifies the topic. Cheers.

In Okinawa, we use a completly different kata named unsu. That has no relationship at all for shotokan or shitoryu unsu. I have never seen an Okinawan version of this popular unsu kata. But, there may be. Just, I have never seen it.

cassavaeter, it depends on who you ask. An old master teaches many students whatever he knows. Then, at some point in time, five or six of his students decide to "start" their own styles - basicaly to teach future generations their own personal views of the same karate they've been taught. I personaly don't regard any of them as "right" or "wrong", it's just their viewpoints. I've spent my life practicing Shotokan, but I respect others as well.

AFAIK..
Unsu has been created by Aragaki sensei of Naha Te.
I never know which one is the original Unsu.

Mabuni and Funakoshi would have learned the same kata, the changes happen when it is passed down. Okinawan karate was changed to suit the japanese. Check out Funakoshi's stances!

Well I see the different there's no jump spinning kick in Shitoryu.
In Shotokan the performer applied ushiro tobi geri (spinning jumps kick)?

I think its a shotokan favourite for kata competition because it looks so good.
