This is a documentary video clip on Aspartame. Aspartame is an artificial sweetner that is added to thousands of products and not many know it is extremely bad for your health.
@Darkwaterdude I understand but aspartame is a convenience our society has grown used to. It's not just going to disappear just as the obesity epidemic won't disappear. What we do need though, if we want to remove aspartame from the market is more public awareness.
@bstmanversusskeletor What you say might be true, however if people don't avoid it altogether it will only make the companies produce more of it. We shouldn't buy any, because we are voting with our money.
Food and Drug Administration. Does that not sound like a conflict of interest... and a cause and effect, profits before people scenario. Evolution ended the day we made GMO food. You are what you eat. Good ol terminator gene technology ... ever seen that movie children of men? We're so screwed, Aspartame is a choice GMOs soon won't be.Cross-pollination is inevitable.
@fawkUtube "The actual number that should be accepted is 0." Radiation is always present in our environment, 0 is an unreasonable number. The same goes for aspartame (except in the case of people with PKU), the only people at risk of health complications are those that aren't aware of or ignore their intake of aspartame and consume more than their body will allow. I understand your concerns though, raising the threshold for radiation contamination to those levels is unacceptable.
@bstmanversusskeletor After the Fukushima disaster the FDA raised the amount of "acceptable radiation contamination" by 1,000 percent for our food and water. The actual number that should be accepted is 0. Just like aspartame.
@bstmanversusskeletor In response to my statement about the daily consumption limit of Aspartame I found some sources stating that the FDA states that they recommend a maximum of 50mg/kg of body weight per day which is a substantial amount more than the limitations presented on this video. I can't find any dietery recommendations on the WHO website so I'm at a loss here. If anyone can find any information about it, please let me know.
What is more disappointing is that even though those with good intentions create announcements like these they fail to mention crucial information such as the daily consumption limit of Aspartame. I had to calculate it myself. It's around 70mg. You don't have to avoid it altogether, just be aware of products containing artificial sweeteners and if you consume them be aware of your total intake. Aspartame is only a problem for people who eat excessive amounts of it and aren't aware of the danger.
Aspartame is only a problem as long as the public remains uninformed and organisations like the WHO don't issue PSA's. As far as I'm concerned nobody has made a large enough effort to inform the people that if people have to take Aspartame they should remember to take it in moderation. Companies that add aspartame to their products aren't aware that many people take a combination of Aspartame containing products that put them over the hypothetical limit of daily consumption.
