Found some more Sissel for all of you on an old vhs-tape.
Here Sissel sings "Better Off Alone" and Lene Marlins "Should It Matter" on a Norwegian tv-show.
Enjoy :)

  • I actually love when Sissel sings pop... no woman artist walks as adeptly in the both the pop and classical worlds.

You can be a sublime and extremely talented vocalist and still dip into the pop world once in a while. "All Good Things" was probably the most amazing album Sissel ever released, and it was 100% pop. Yet i still love her when she sings opera, classical compositions, folk, country, or whatever.

She is Sissel. She sings all music. And she sings all music very, very well.

  • I found your attempt to compare music to political systems a little bewildering, almost like comparing a cat to a polo mint!

Your comment about OettingerCroat was unfair also. He loves Sissel's music but can be critical of her when he feels she deserves it.

  • Thanks much for posting this. Every one of her performances is a gem and she looks very lovely here.

  • i wish i could understand what she says, my norwegian definitely sucks! ))

  • georgie, I'm obviously not from this planet filled to the edge with morons like you who thinks personal orgin is relevant. An inteligent person would ask for a clearification if it's something in a message he doesn't understand.

All though you are right about 'ears' being the arbiter for what is good quality, you really missing the point, being we know a great deal about what the ears hear and what it listen to be good. From this we can easily conclude what is good and bad quality music.

  • What planet are you from,Sopranelsker?

All you write is gibberish/gobbledy gook and double speak!

Makes no sense......maybe lost in translation!

Once again.......you do NOT set the standard for the quality of music......it is in the ear of the beholder!

  • georgie, I never said taste in music doesn't change with maturity. In fact, it can easily be read into my text my position is quite the opposite. My point being most people don't mature with age.

Music appreciation is neither subjective nor objective. It's an incompatible concept to both, because of will. When people want to appreciate bad quality music, we can conclude they've got bad taste. Where bad being a duality away from both white noise and a single sinusoid.

  • Sopranelsker.....who are you to determine what is "quality music"?You are so very judgemental and falsely imply that people's taste does not change with maturity!

Music appreciation is generally subjective and not dictated by someone, like yourself, who would attempt to determine what is acceptable!!

  • erasmus, you're perfectly right about me totally lack respect for most grown up people's taste of music where they don't have a clue about objective tools to, in a scientific way, validate what is quality music. Most people which studies say to be more than 99%, still are hooked into their youth taste of music which they gathered by tradition and not by any precise decision. This thread more than confirms my ealier observations. The world is filled to the edge with immature, inautonom crackpots.

  • Totally agree with all parts of your post, erasmusthewise!!You are indeed,WISE!

Being a fan of Kiri Te Kanawa,I have at least ten crossover/pop/b'way cds she recorded and enjoy them as much as the classical/opera!
