his over-enthusiasm for the sound of an open hi hat has refreshed my passion for drumming once more

When he gets some air in his hi-hat it makes my shoulders shiver. Also, all drummers please note - loose snare drum, hit softly = SOUL. Nobody wants to hear a gun going off in their eardrum. My advice is - spend less time in the gym, more time in the pocket! :)

Bernard Purdie should teach a thing or two about groovin especially to those guys at like, Berklee. I understand it can take as much work to develop chops as to groove, but staying in the pocket is what's really important.

My advice is play what's right for the music. One size does not fit all especially in music.

There are still a few thousand songs to be germinated from this beat.

He is groovy, but comparing him to John Bonham is like comparing apples to oranges. They played and mastered completely different styles of drumming. Purdie is smooth, crisp, and groovy. Bonham is energetic, dynamic, and powerful. Don't shit on Bonham because he didn't spend his lifetime playing funk, and don't ask purdie to cover Led Zeppelin's "Rock and Roll"

NEW DRUM VIDEO SERIES on my channel. Come check it out. Its called "Chop of the Day." Its a series of short videos demonstrating advanced drum fills at fast and slow tempos so that even a beginner can learn them. They're pretty crazy. SUBSCRIBE because there's lots of them and there will be many more.
