On Sunday, May 4, 2008, Tony Melendez performed at St. Mary's Church.
Tony is known around the world for playing the guitar with his feet. He performed for the Pope John Paul II in 1985 in an unforgettable moment but before that moment his High School Years, during that time he considered becoming a priest but couldn't, because priests were required to have an index finger and thumb. The news disappointed him but he preserved in his church activities, using his talents as a guitarist and composer for masses and church related activities.
Since his performance for Pope John Paul II, Tony has performed in every state in the union and twenty-seven foreign countries, making countless television appearances.
Tony has been the recipient of numerous awards and honors, including special commendations from President Reagan, the State of California, Variety Clubs of America, and countless other civic and charitable organizations.
A highly talented composer and musician, Tony has recorded among others the following songs: "Hands in Heaven", "Lowly Servant", "Everybody Sing", "Love is an Answer", "Despedida", "I Wish I Could Hold You", "Hands in Heaven", and "You are my God."
I saw this guy at the National Catholic Youth Rally this year in Indianapolis, and he was amazing. He talked to all of us kids about life and it was very moving. What a wonderful experience l recomend all of you to see Tony, he will move you. Thank you Tony.

Oh, the memories. My daughter and I went to see him in the 1990's during our diocesan sesquicentennial youth event. He did this song. During his keynote speech, the maybe 800 teenagers were so quiet and attentive, you could have heard a pin drop inbetween Tony's sentences. When are that many teens so quiet in one room? I wish he would come around here again
