So, this is my video to you who's issuing the problem of Saved Games in Dungeon Siege II. I didn't have time to edit this so I'll write how it's done. So here is 2 different styles how to fix it

1.st 0:00 TO about 1:00 - Doesn't work for everyone, but it CAN solve the problem.
1. So what you gonna do is go to your save files
C:\Users\ACCOUNTNAME\Documents\My Games\Dungeon Siege 2 Broken World\Save
2. And there you should go to your character
3. Delete ds2party & ds2radar
4. Rename ds2party.ds2bak2 to ds2party
5. Rename ds2radar.ds2bak2 to ds2radar
6. Just in case delete all ds2party.ds2bak1 / 3 / 4 / 5 & also do the same to ds2.radar

2nd 1:05 TO the end - It fixed my problem and others.. Tho it did make the TMP-file automatically (no idea why)
1. So what you gonna do is go to your save files
C:\Users\ACCOUNTNAME\Documents\My Games\Dungeon Siege 2 Broken World\Save
2. To your character
3. Make your ds2party.ds2bak1 to ds2party.tmp
(So you must do a new character, save immediatly when you start and go do this step, since DS2 is saving the files to the ds2party.tmp, not to the ds2party)
4. That's done. But always before you start playing, do the step 3.!
_____________________________________________________________

REMEMBER TO DO ALWAYS BACKUP FILE 3 DIFFERENT TIMES BEFORE ENDING.
1.st - When you're ending (BUT HAVEN'T SAVED YET)
2.nd - WHEN YOU HAVE SAVED
3.rd - WHEN YOU HAVE CLOSED YOUR DS2

So what I mean with Backup file is that you copy your character folder to somewhere else (no don't CUT it! COPY IT!)

BTW TEST THIS ALSO:
When you do the 1.st backup or 2.nd backup, there might be .TMP file automatically done by DS2! So if so, that is the one you should next time put to ds2party, since there's the actual save!

PS. Try only 1 of those (1 or 2) steps at a time. Do not mess up with both same time!
_______________________________________________________________
Method 2 specific:
1. Start a new character
2. Save game immediatly
3. End it after saving
(Now it shouldn't even bug so there's nothing to worry yet)
New day! You wan't to play again!

1. Continue your 3lvl (or 1lvl in single I think :)) character
2. Play it play it play it
3. You're feeling tired, so you want to end it
4. Do BACKUP FILE
5. Save
6. Do BACKUP FILE in different folder than others
7. End
8. Do BACKUP FILE in different folder than others
9. Just in case, check were there .tmp file in the 1st or 2nd backup file (just in case) If there wasn't, no worries. (If there were, continue to 10b)
10a. Now, go to the 2nd backupfile (step 6. backupfile that is)
11a. Rename the .tmp to .party , and rename the .party to .tmp.
12a. Delete your save game folder, and copy that (2nd backupfile) folder to your save games folder (= copy the folder you've just modified = step 10-11).

11a Example:
1. nikky.ds2party - nikky.ds2party.tmp(1)
2. nikky.ds2party.tmp - nikky.ds2party
3. Erase the (1)
4. So it should look like this:
nikky.ds2party & nikky.ds2party.tmp
So nikky.ds2party was the old .tmp, and this new .tmp was the old ds2party

- What you're doin'? : Changing those 2 different files vice versa.
- Why you're doin'? : Because, DS2 saves the main save file in the .tmp file, but doesn't use it in GAME. And .tmp (TEMPORARY) file usually gets deleted during game, but if you've modified those, they usually wont :)

10b. If you see that CHARACTERNAME.ds2party.tmp file there (no, not the one you did there) (This requires a character where haven't been used my tricks before) copy it to the savegame folder
11b. Delete the ds2party (IMPORTANT. DELETE IT! DON'T RENAME IT TO ANYTHING)
12b. Rename the .tmp to ds2party

- Why you're deleting ds2party? : Because if it did there .tmp once, it will make it more times :)
- What is this .tmp file and why I have to rename it to ds2party? : It is your SAVE file, but game doesn't use it as save file, because it it just temporary file. You have to rename it to ds2party because then game can use the as save file. (=.TMP file is save file)

  • It's not true for all players, but it's worth knowing Dungeon Siege 2: Broken World can generate save issues if you Alt-Tab during gameplay. Saving after Alt-Tabbing will display "Game Saved" on screen as normal, but it'll only save radar files, and won't party files, so essentially you can Alt-Tab and go back to it, play normally, save a thousand times in one big session, and you won't be saving squat.

Happened to me after a tweny hour session when it first came out. Not pleasant.

  • @UnitedKingdomify Well there's no solution on anything which would work on everyone =)

-> But are you sure your bug is working like that? Since one of my friend's bug does kinda the same thing, but not with alt+tabbing. It does save .radar , but not .party .. So you must keep eye on the .tmp party to rename it back to .party .. So the issue is the same.. But yeah.. dunno =) But thanks for sharing your experience also! :)

  • @Visuder When I said it's not true for all players I meant the alt-tabbing thing, not your excellent advice. I remember bringing it up on the GPG forums and they said a patch might be pending... THAT never happened, lol, heh ha. I just remember hating the hell out of Broken World back then.

Sucks to be a gamer when you lose all your data, especially on long rpgs. The companions at the inn/character conversion glitch sucked big time too. >.<

Cheers! I'm gonna revisit Aranna soon me thinks. ;)

  • @UnitedKingdomify Oh yeah.. Misunderstood/read the first part.. And Too bad they never fixed it =) And yes, that does really suck when your data is erased after playing plenty of hours.. Especially @ RPG games (© I really do know)..

  • thanks, this tutorial helped tons.

how much pain it did cause us, we had to repeat same lvl at least 5 times from Act 1 -2, tried this and that... and always same crap sooner or later

funny that microsoft couldnt help you out on their OWN frikking game. whata joke.

  • @naughtyEagle Indeed :) No problems mate
