Erlang, Haskell and other "obscure" but not necessarily functional languages like Smalltalk and OCaml are used extensively in finance, telecoms, automotive industry and so on.
C++/Java/C# are effectively the same language, Erlang/Haskell etc. are a different breed. It would be very beneficial to learn one of those.
I understand that erlang is a functional programming language, but if large corporations like Facebook use erlang, why is it not talked about as much as C++ Java just to name some top dogs. I am just trying to determine whether I should begin studying erlang. I have a lot of background with C++ and I am currently studying what Java has to offer.
