The car runs purely off of sunlight (some which is previously stored on batteries for cloudy weather/night), they can keep up speed on the highway and they're pretty impressive when you think about how they're powered.

This car is part of the 2008 North American Solar Challenge (NASC2008) which is a competition to design, build, and drive solar-powered cars in a cross-country time/distance rally event. Teams compete in a 2400 mile drive from Plano, Texas, USA to Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

This video was filmed on route 75, somewhere near Sherman, Texas.

  • UFO on land! drive fast! the sun setting down!

  • Hahaha when I find a car that can jump over the grand canyon, then I'll be impressed. But 60 MPH is pretty good, just need 100 MPH more!

  • Good work! Would have loved to know how the entire thing works. Thank you very much for sharing this video.

  • @hindview more like u f o lol

  • OMG!!! its a UFO!!!

  • WAY TO GO U OF M !

  • Check out the wikipedia article on the "World Solar Challenge".

Under history there's a table with it.

If it's not there then go to the english version of the "World Solar Challenge" and then click on "Dutch" under Languages.

    Against under history or "geschiedenis".

The Dutch Nuon Solar Team has been undefeated for the last 4 years. Last year there were two classes and japan also won a class.

    So :P

  • I don't enjoy the fact that a semi split up the caravan, but winning, and driver safety makes it worth it in the end.
