London yes! me to

Using a barbell would simply be impractical for me. Kettlebells are more than sufficient.
-
I did indeed miss that part.
I don't claim to be an expert at kettlebell exercises, but by studying instructional videos made by experts such as Pavel and going by what they say, I'm sure to never go wrong as far as technique is concerned. You've learned from Steve Cotter and Mike Mahler, so I think you know exactly what I'm talking about (hip snap/thrust).
-
perhaps you missed the part at 43 seconds when we state you exhale at the top position
-
I've seen Pavel and others do the swing and they always make it clear that the power of the swing comes from the hips. Not to mention also that they exhale when they are standing up. Some call it a hip pop, others call it a hip snap or thrust. The idea is the same.

We're not pulling rank; we just wanted to see what we could learn from you.
Two things that you could learn from this are:
1. its not about hip thrust, its about hip extension - and that action is performed every time you come up from the squat
2. Exaggerated hip thrust is a sympton of "Rigid Style" training. Watch the professional lifters and they lift with a rhythm and fluidity, not just "hip thrusting"
really good swing tutorial.
I like they way you emphasise the 'squat' portion of the swing as i think this is much safer than other styles of swing that are taught which involve a back bend and practically no leg drive
Your snatch instructional is also very good. hope to see you post some more vids in the future

you are welcome,
as you can see from previous comments there are 2 types of swing. from a PT perspective we always teach quad dominant rather than forward flexion as most people rarely activate the lumbar region and have insufficient core stability to minimise injury risks. foward flexion swings recruit less motor units and so are good for numbers. quad dominant swings use larger motor recruitment and so are better for calorie consumption and weight loss.

LondonKB guy,
I would like to recant. After doing a search on youtube, I've discovered that there are indeed two types of swing (fluid style and hard style). You demonstrate the former and I learned the latter from a Pavel video. Perhaps I'll try the fluid style out when I want to do higher reps and the hard style when I want to work on my power.
My appologies.

Hi,
If you are looking to train for power then a better solution would be olympic lifting simply because this will allow you to increase resistance to a level above and beyond kettlebells.
For example, who is stronger - someone who can clean and jerk 150kg on a bar or someone who can clean and jerk 2 * 32kg kettlebells? Honestly, the first guy is MUCH stronger!
The true beauty behind kettlebells is that it allows you to develop incredible work output over time, not a 1 rep max lift.
